Sandy Hook Memorial Giveaway - 26 Acts of Kindness, 26 Signed Copies of Sacrifice

For a chance to win one of 26 SIGNED copies of SACRIFICE, read on about an amazing trend.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, NBC's Ann Curry began a wonderful initiative: she committed to performing 26 acts of kindness in honor of the 26 children and adults who were killed, and the idea has taken off nationwide.

I, Cayla Kluver, have already committed to my own 26 acts of kindness, and began yesterday by donating $40 in books to chldren in need. Now, thanks to my amazing publisher, Harlequin TEEN, I am able to offer a giveaway of 26 SIGNED COPIES OF SACRIFICE, the final book in the Legacy trilogy, to entrants in the US and Canada, as part of my pledge.

Here are the guidelines:

1) To enter the contest, all you have to do is tell me about a time when someone did something nice for you, or vice versa.  IE: I remember I got kicked out of a club at school by the other students, and a guy I didn't even know very well stood up and left with me because he thought they were being unfair.  My editor Tashya told me how she and her husband, early in their marriage, were counting money to pay for their dinner, only to discover at the end of the meal that a guy at another table had paid for them.  It's amazing how something as simple as holding a door can make someone else's day better, and I want to hear your stories.

2) The contest will be open from December 21, 2012 at midnight (Eastern Standard Time), to January 20, 2013 at midnight EST. Entrants MUST have addresses in the US or Canada.

3) The 26 winners will be randomly selected and contacted on January 20, 2013.

For more information about the 26 Acts of Kindness Initiative, follow the link! I encourage all participants to tweet about their acts of kindness using the hashtag #26Acts or #26ActsofKindness, and tagging @AnnCurry to thank her for this incredible idea.

Happy October - Horror Movie Catalogue Time!

I seem to have taken a summer sabbatical from blogging, since my last post was in May and it is now October.  But I'm still alive, plugging away at my new series and looking forward to Sacrifice's release on the 30th!

Every October, it is tradition for my little sister and me to go on a horror movie binge leading up to Halloween.  This year, we started at the end of September with House at the End of the Street.  Now, I LOVE horror movies and thrillers, and in case you do too, I'm going to keep track of all the movies we're knocking out of the way this year by posting the list on my blog.  If you have recommendations, I want to hear them!!!

Horror Movie Catalogue - 2012

1. House at the End of the Street - AMAZING!  Go see it if you haven't already.  It had a little bit of a Hitchcock flavor to it and it's definitely worth a watch or two.  Or five.  Plus Jennifer Lawrence is just so darn adorable.

2. The Mothman Prophecies - I didn't realize how tense I was for this whole movie until the end when I felt like my eyes had been glued open for two hours.  I'd definitely recommend it.

3.  Alone in the Dark - Ummmm... movies based on video games rarely turn out well.  That's all I'm saying.

4.  Halloween - This movie is such a classic, but having seen it for the first time this month I was a little underwhelmed.  I dunno - what did you think?

5.  Poltergeist - I wasn't really scared during this one but it was really interesting... once it got going haha.  I distinctly recall the words, "Take your time, Spielberg," coming out of my mouth.

6.  The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Of course, Leatherface is based on Ed Gein, a little home-state glory there.  And the edition I got came with a blooper reel!  Though I kinda thought the bloopers were better than the movie.  Another classic that didn't really impress me that much.

7.  Pathology - There were about two scenes in this movie I liked.  Other than that, I was really angry through the whole thing.  Angry that this film exists, lol.

8.  The Haunting of Molly Hartley - I remember this movie got SLAMMED when it came out, but aside from a kind of lackluster ending, I can't tell why.  It was actually really interesting and the main character was cute and likeable.  Worth a watch, in my opinion.

9.  IT - We all know Stephen King is the master of horror, and the story of IT is terrifying.  But this movie was made during the time of campy green lights and slimy prosthetic creatures.  And really, REALLY bad hair.  That said, totally watch it.  I wasn't bored at all during it, and Tim Curry is always terrifying.

10.  Rosemary's Baby - Another classic, but this one didn't disappoint.  Again, a very likeable main character, and by the climax of the film I was so rooting for her.  Too bad Satan is her baby's father.

11.  The Tall Man - I was really unsure of this one because it looked a little stereotypical, but it actually had a really interesting twist in it.  It got a little bumpy in places but it was a totally engaging watch.

12. The Oxford Murders - They should have just let Elijah Wood have a British accent in this film.  His dialogue was written with an accent in mind and it sounds a little ridiculous sometimes.  Otherwise, this was a really interesting movie!  Not stellar, but John Hurt makes such a great grumpy old professor.

That's it for now - more to come!!  What are you watching for Halloween?

New Book Deal!

This news has been floating out there, and it's well past time I actually wrote about it on my own blog!  I have sold a new series to HarlequinTEEN (big thanks to my agent, Kevan Lyon, and my editor, Natashya Wilson).  The working title of book #1, which obviously is subject to change, is NEVER LOOK BACK, and here's what went in Publisher's Marketplace about it:

"A young fae girl sets out on a daunting quest in the human world to find the estranged son and heir to the faerie realm's dying queen, when she is attacked by human hunters and her wings are cut off, making her return home impossible."

That's about all I can say for now - I will keep you all updated with details to come, and if you haven't seen the back cover of SACRIFICE, coming out Oct. 30th, check it out here!

Tournament Stop #7 & Woven Myst Interview!

Hello all you beautiful readers,

Today marks the seventh stop of the Allegiance Tournament over at A Cupcake and a Latte.  Along with a review of Allegiance, read up on EVERYTHING I know about Hytanica!

In more awesome news, I did an interview with the lovely Woven Myst Magazine about my books, what books I'm looking forward to, what books I think every teen should read, and what I think about young people writing books.  (Basically, the interview is about books.)  The magazine is giving away a copy of Allegiance, so head on over, read, comment, and enter the contest!

Just a reminder, Allegiance is now out on shelves, so make sure you pick up your copy!  (I'm pretty sure there's one with your name on it, and it would be really sad if it didn't get to go home with you.)

Just kidding, of course (except that copy of Allegiance is crying right now).

Book 3 in Greece; Legacy is a Pop Paperback of 2012!

Hi everybody!

First off, as I posted on Facebook a few days ago, book 3 of the Legacy Series has officially been sold to my Greek publisher.  I don't have a release date yet, but this means that book 3 will definitely be reaching my Greek readers, and I couldn't be happier! :)

Second... da da da da!  Legacy has been listed as one of the Young Adult Library Services Association's Popular Paperbacks of 2012!  This is huge news, and its all thanks to you wonderful readers who have been buying, reading, and sharing the book with your friends.  Check out the entire list here (Legacy is under the category "Forbidden Romance"):

Just a reminder:  Allegiance will be coming out here in the USA on February 28, 2012, which is now less than a month away.  I will be doing a blog tour, courtesy of Kismet Blog Tours, and details are forthcoming.  I do want to let you all know about a very special event coming up at the end of March.

On March 24th at 5pm I will be at the Bowers Writers House in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania to do a joint reading with Pam Chillemi-Yeager.  Copies of Allegiance will be available to purchase, and I will be signing books and answering questions.  Please please please stop on by!  Seating is limited, so it's first-come first-serve.  There is no entry fee.  The address and phone number for the Bowers Writers House can be found here:
